Dark Days<\/h3>\n

There is always rain falling somewhere in the city,<\/span><\/p>\n

Vancouver, Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In one corner,<\/span><\/p>\n

there is a slum street giving off an eerie atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rats run around,<\/span>trash is scattered on the road,<\/span><\/p>\n

and many heroin addicts lie like rags<\/span> holding syringes in their hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Canada, where the temperature far exceeds freezing and freezes everything,<\/span><\/p>\n

living on the streets is impossible during winter.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, in this city of Vancouver,<\/span> even in winter, the temperature stays around zero degrees,<\/span><\/p>\n

which makes it a place where homeless people from all over Canada<\/span> flow to in search of refuge.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once heroin is injected into the body,<\/span><\/p>\n

for several hours, all the anxieties and loneliness of reality are forgotten.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Consciousness drifts away,<\/span><\/p>\n

and immediately a person becomes no longer human.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is almost like an object shaped like a human.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These objects line up and fill both sides of the sidewalk,<\/span><\/p>\n

and the sight of them gives you the feeling that<\/span><\/p>\n

you are in a different world, not of this earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every night on such a street,<\/span><\/p>\n

someone dies from a drug overdose.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sound of an ambulance siren is the signal for this.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Searching through trash bins for food or items that can be turned into money.<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking for a place that can serve as a shelter to escape the rain and wind and sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chasing after the daily struggle to survive,<\/span><\/p>\n

and being driven by the desire to inject again,<\/span><\/p>\n

it becomes difficult to search for oneself.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In contrast, if you look up a few streets away,<\/span><\/p>\n

luxury condominiums stand tall,<\/span><\/p>\n

radiating a sparkling light.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Many of them were Native Americans, the indigenous people.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There is a significant background behind how they came to be this way.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Long ago, with the arrival of Europeans, the indigenous people lost more than 90% of their population.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many were directly killed, but most could not adapt to the new viruses brought from other regions and died from disease.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The continent came to be dominated by European immigrants, who took charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their traditional way of life was restricted, and they could not adapt to capitalism and business.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In response, the government implemented a policy to gather their children and separate them from their parents for several years.<\/span><\/p>\n

During this time, they were educated to live as part of European society.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The young indigenous children, like sponges, absorbed the knowledge and habits necessary to survive in Western society.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the rapid changes in their environment and the stress led to mental health issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When these children were sent back to their villages, they could no longer coexist with their real parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a result, many, with mental health issues, were unable to adapt to capitalism and business, nor could they return to their original culture, leaving their hearts isolated.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These people and their descendants were entitled to receive welfare from the government for their entire lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Because of this, few worked willingly, and many became addicted to drugs or alcohol.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their children, too, grew up and lived in a similar way.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some of them drifted here to Vancouver.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Just as everything has its cause and effect,<\/span><\/p>\n

everyone has their own circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Just as there is always cause and effect,<\/p>\n

each person has his or her own circumstances.<\/p>\n

Without a family environment that provides<\/p>\n

sufficient love and proper education,<\/p>\n

people will have a difficult path.<\/p>\n

They are very sensitive and cruel creatures.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The rain and tears that fall and flow through this city<\/span><\/p>\n

seem to be washing something away,<\/span><\/p>\n

cold yet warm at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Where will they all end up, I wonder?<\/span><\/p>\n

The rain, the tears, and the people.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
