Some may call it fate, others may call it guidance. Resisting this flow can sometimes bring suffering. Surrendering to it may lead us to a whole new world. Each person interprets it in their own way. But perhaps, this flow has no good or bad. It simply exists, purely—as the flow of the cosmos itself. In this work, I minimized the influence of ego, and let the natural grain of the wood lead the way, layering color along its flow. In doing so, the patterns that emerged—mysterious and unplanned—became a pure visualization of the cosmic flow. It is painted with special luminous pigments, and in darkness, it gently glows. Light and darkness—two opposing forces—embrace each other, and by night, the painting reveals another side of itself. We often wish to avoid the darkness. Yet it is because of the darkness that light can shine. It is how we learn love more deeply—how we shine for someone, for this world. That is the meaning held within this work. This piece consists of six separate panels that together form one large painting. What once seemed separate may reveal itself to have always been one. And in that moment of realization, we may remember something important—something we had forgotten. If, while standing before this piece, you feel something quietly tremble within you, that is surely the rhythm of the cosmos flowing through you—your inner light. May you treasure that resonance, that radiance, always. Everything is part of a perfect flow. You, too—each and every one of us—are that flow itself. So trust. Kota | solo exhibition Graining of the Cosmos — Kota | solo exhibition Graining of the Cosmos — Guided by Woods, Lit from Within — The formation of wood grain is woven with countless grand stories beyond human understanding— the ebb and flow of tides, the turning of seasons, the rotation of the Earth, and the resonance with the stars. When I realized this, I came to see wood grain as the rhythm of the cosmos made visible. Believing in this cosmic rhythm of the wood grain, I entrusted myself to it, allowing it to guide me as I painted. The works that emerged in this way seem to quietly embody the cosmos itself— perfect, abundant with love. These paintings are created with special pigments, and gently glow in the darkness. Light and darkness, though opposites, rest side by side, revealing a different face at night. We may wish to avoid darkness. But it is precisely because of darkness that light shines. Through it, we can learn love more deeply. Such meaning is embedded in these works. In this exhibition, twelve new pieces are on display. Hidden within them are two large works—each formed by six connected paintings. When we realize that what seemed separate was actually one, we may also rediscover something else important—something we may have forgotten. If, when standing before the works, you feel something tremble within you, surely that is the rhythm of the cosmos flowing within you— your inner light. I hope you will always treasure that resonance, that glow. Everything is connected. Everything is perfect. Everything is one. It is the beginning. Awakening. It is the end. Awakening. It is to have resolve.   Awakening. It is to entrust. Awakening. It is to remember.   Awakening. It is there is. Awakening. Awakening.   Awakening.   Awakening.   Awakening. —————————   Explanation: This artwork, created using Kota’s unique painting technique, Cosmic Rhythm. This approach respects the natural patterns of wood—designs born from the vast forces of nature, Earth, and the cosmos itself. The grain of the wood is seen as a visible manifestation of the cosmic rhythm—weather, gravity, seasons, planetary rotation and so on. By painting in harmony with the cosmic rhythm, I, as a human being, express Oneness—the idea that all is interconnected. This concept is influenced by the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha (6th–4th century BCE), who spoke of “Dependent Origination”—the principle that all things exist in interrelation.
