Artwork Insight
Reclaimed wood collected from the Netherlands. The shapes, cracks, and marks left on the surface carry traces of someone's life. By washing what was once discarded and giving it new life as art, the work quietly holds within it questions of environment, cycle, and transcendence.
Phosphorescent paint, interference pigment and 24k gold leaf are applied. The work shifts in appearance depending on the light.
Figures and landscapes sampled from Hokusai's Ejiri in Suruga Province (Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji). Rendered in mineral pigments, pyrography, and micron pen.
