Hot Spring + Art | Digital + Street Art Project | Yubatake in Kusatsu Onsen, Japan
The capital of Thailand, Bangkok
and the northern city of Pai
were the locations where I held my own art project,
Where The Light Is (=The Place with Light)
I received many requests to bring this project to Japan,
and finally, it has landed in Japan as a reverse import.
The memorable first location was
Kusatsu City in Gunma Prefecture, thanks to a meaningful connection.
(Yes, the famous hot spring town of Kusatsu!)
The event took place in the city center, where the famous hot spring called Yubatake (Hot Water Field) is located, which is also a major tourist attraction in Kusatsu.
In the cold sky with snow falling, the Yubatake continued to emit steam in thick clouds.
The distinct sulfur scent of the Kusatsu Onsen.
Whether they had just come from the hot springs or not, people stopped, seemingly in a daze, and stared at the scene.
I believe it was a sight they had never seen before in their lives.
What did everyone feel when they encountered the glowing street art that suddenly appeared before them?
I was strongly reminded that both hot springs and art have the power to heal people.
Having implemented the project in Japan, I received positive reactions from the Japanese people, and I could feel the potential of this endeavor.
I also identified a few areas for improvement, so I plan to make some adjustments and updates.
I would like to implement it again somewhere in Japan.
Thank you to everyone in Kusatsu!
Let's meet again somewhere!
